Eurocept Pharmaceuticals - Urology

Urology is a branch of medicine which focuses on diseases and problems of the male and female urinary tracts. The organs under the domain of urology include the bladder, kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urethra, penis, scrotum and prostate.

Urology can be divided into functional urology and urologic oncology. Functional urology deals with functional disorders of the urinary tracts, e.g. an overactive bladder, with or without urge incontinence (involuntary loss of urine). Someone with an overactive bladder will often feel the urge to urinate, even in the middle of the night.á

Functional urology also deals with impaired bladder emptying, which prevents people from urinating without help. People suffering from urinary retention are unable to empty their bladder.

For its part, urologic oncology focuses on patients with cancer of the bladder, kidneys or prostate.
